Kevin L. Richardson was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 1, 1955. He attended public schools in northern New Jersey in the New York Metropolitan area and graduated from Rutgers University, the State University of New Jersey in 1977 with B.A. in Political Science.
In 1979 Kevin Richardson joined the US Department of State as a Foreign Service Office and was assigned to the American Consulate General in Monterrey, Mexico where he worked in the Consular and Economic Sections from 1979-81. Following his posting in Mexico, Kevin Richardson was assigned to the Administrative Section of the US Interest Section in Baghdad, Iraq from 1982-84 as the General Services Officer. After Iraq he served in the Consular Officer at the US Embassy in Praia, Cape Verde from 1984-86 and then as the Deputy Consular Section Chief at the US Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 1987-90.
Kevin Richardson returned to Washington, DC from 1990-94 where he served in the Bureau of African Affairs for two years as the Desk Officer for Ghana, Cape Verde and Guinea Bissau and then as an instructor at the State Department’s Foreign Service Institute. training new Consular Officers.
Following his assignments in Washington Kevin Richardson was sent to the US Embassy in Kuwait as the Consular Section Chief from 1994-96. He then was transferred to the American Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya from 1996-99 as the Regional Refugee Coordinator and where he survived and then played an active role in the immediate aftermath of the terrorist bombing of the Embassy in August 1998.
In 1999 Kevin Richardson was transferred to the US Embassy in Singapore as the Consular Section Chief until 2002. He was then assigned to the American Consulate General in Guadalajara, Mexico from 2002-2006 where he served again as the Consular Section Chief and also as the Deputy Principal Officer. During this posting Kevin Richardson was promoted into the Senior Foreign Service. In September of 2006, Kevin Richardson began his current assignment as the Labor Counselor at the US Embassy in Mexico City.
Kevin Richardson is married to Maria Antonieta Garza Richardson. The Richardsons have one daughter, Lara Patricia Richardson, age 19.
